Margaret’s paintings start with an observation of the landscape and culminate in depictions of the remembered and imagined. Whilst the landscapes that inspire her works are clear, she is interested in creating space for her audience to have their own personal experience of place. Margaret is occupied more with creating calm and reflective connections rather than realistic documentary. Margaret lives and works in inner Sydney, and is inspired by international and domestic travels, a residency in Greece, and her daily walking ritual. She documents these travels both photographically, and with sketches and paintings on paper. Back in her Sydney studio, she collates these reference materials and draws on them to construct her finished works in paint on boards or canvas. Since completing a Bachelor of Fine Art with a painting major at the National Art School in 2018, Margaret has been in several group exhibitions in Sydney and Melbourne, participated in an artist residency on Skopelos Island, and been a finalist in several art prizes and awards.
