'away from the noise’ refers to my battle with noise - audible, visual and metaphorical. In an age where we are overloaded with content, temptation and comparison, I seek quiet. This body of work reflects my quest for silence.
This exhibition combines plein-air paintings and studio works that capture the moment of observation and contemplation. My subject matter ranges from the wide view to the detail in a garden. I am drawn to the unseen; the rear or screened view. Some works are the product of my remembering and some imagination but all are rooted in the experience of stopping and observing. I never use photographs.
The fleeting moment is captured with gestural brush strokes. There is only loose reference in these paintings to the time of day or exactitude of representation in colour and composition. I seek to share the experience of a place rather than the place itself.
